Nothing of note has occurred at work recently, which obviously makes for poor writing material. Sorry, guys. I’ve also started my last month of school, so that’s eating up a significant amount of time. The prof has assigned three books and three writing assignments in addition to two tests. Keep in mind that this class is only for the month of January! Still, I think it will be fantastic.
In other news, I believe that I am suffering from mild whiplash after firing my husband’s 30-06 rifle. I had declined all offers to fire it for years, then finally decided, “Why not?” this weekend. I got the first shot off and it didn’t kick too bad. I’d even say it was fun. It’s a Remington 1903, made during WWII, so it’s quite heavy but the bolt action is the best I’ve ever seen. Before I got off my second shot, I realized I was barely able to hold it up anymore and consequently did not seat it properly against my shoulder. The second shot jarred me and is very likely responsible for the whiplash I’m experiencing. My fault, oh well.
Just thought I’d give a little update. Hope to have new posts soon!
Nasty; I know someone who broke her jaw at a clay pigeon shoot so I suppose you got off very lucky. I like shooting as a sport; actually I like a lo of sports of that nature such as archery. But as I mentioned in your personal blog a gun isn’t something I’d feel comfortable having in my home, ironic considering I own a 50lb compound bow a type of Irish javelin called a dart and a set of 3″ throwing knives.
How the hell do you break your jaw at a clay shoot? I don’t get it. I’m pretty proficient with firearms; it was entirely my fault that I didn’t seat the 1903 correctly. My neck seems much better today, so that’s definitely good. I’d say I got off lucky, too, as there was minimal shoulder bruising.
I don’t think it’s unusual that you’d feel uncomfortable with a gun but not with other weapons. It’s all about how they’re used and what stigma is attached to them. Being able to use them effectively also gives them a bump, haha.
Whatever way she was holding it, when it kicked the butt went upward and hit her under the jaw
I seriously cannot imagine that happening unless she had a poor grip or improper seating. That, of course, is assuming it was fired intentionally. If she was holding it pointing towards the ground and accidentally fired it, I could see that happening easily. A gun kicks in the direction opposite of the bullet, so I just can’t see someone intentionally firing a gun properly and coming out with a broken jaw. Geez, that must have sucked.
Damn, I actually did this while drunk five or six years back… Alcohol + Guns is PURE idiot shit, luckily I learned my lesson. Easy on that neck!
Ooooh. I have far too much respect for the power of a firearm to mix their use with alcohol. They’re pretty fun when you have snacks and drinks, though…we can stay out shooting longer! (Plus the empty cans make for great targets.)
I always assume that no news is good news, and you’re good about keeping us in the loop, so I assumed you were doing well and having a good time, which it turns out you are
Indeed. I’m trying to decide what to do after I graduate…start working full time at BC and pick up a part-time job, or keep my schedule and pick up a full-time job. I suppose whatever job I can get will dictate what I do. *sigh*
